The Story Behind Stone’s Throw Cottage

Hello! We are Stone’s Throw Cottage’s pleased proprietors, Marc and Michele McTeague. We meticulously and carefully restored this little cottage from the 1930s with you, our future visitor, in mind. Nothing would please us more than for you to, like many of our previous visitors, make Stone’s Throw Cottage your home away from home.
Marc and his family began taking vacations in Indian River in 1981, which is when the story of Stone’s Throw Cottage started. As a young lad, he enjoyed winters on the ski slopes and snowmobile routes and summers splashing in the numerous lakes and rivers. He played golf at nearby courses like Treetops, Hidden River, Boyne Highlands, and, of course, the stunning Indian River Golf Club as he grew older, continuing to love the location.
The idea of buying a vacation home in Northern Michigan was sown in 2001 when Marc and Michele took their kids to Indian River for the first time. Every year, they dreamed of purchasing a house in Indian River, boated on the river, and strolled through the quaint downtown streets. They eventually found what is now lovingly referred to as Stone’s Throw Cottage in 2021, which allowed them to realize their goal.
The cottage needed some work when they first bought it. When they found the original white pine flooring underneath the 1990s-era carpet, their initial idea for a speedy, neutral-colored restoration was swiftly altered. They were stunning and rich in history, despite their imperfections. As soon as the cottage’s appeal became apparent, it told Marc and Michele that it preferred personality and color over carpet and muted colors.
Stone’s Throw house gained new vitality following a complete makeover that included a bathroom, a new terrace, and the completion of the bedroom house. It is thriving and prepared to serve as your home base in stunning Northern Michigan.
